Hugs Pet Products was interested in a line of dog toys being designed and developed at Inventionland. The toys were meant to help fight plaque and strengthen jaw muscles, but they needed a brand identity to stand out in the marketplace. Being the movie lover I am, I created a mockup package for one of the toys with a playful nod to the classic Jaws film. I had to use that iconic red in the logo, of course!
For the color scheme, I went with sky blue and dandelion yellow—two colors dogs can actually see. Hugs Pet Products loved the concept, and I moved forward with developing packaging for the rest of the toy line.
The products were headed for Petco and Bed Bath & Beyond, but to meet retail regulations, the packaging had to include bilingual text, which really condensed the space available for graphics. To stay on theme with Jaws, I tested a bite mark in the top corner of the package—and luckily, it worked!
